hello again! 👋
i'm back with another post
because we are right at engagement/wedding season! 💍
so here goes my first topic :
➢ booking your makeup artist/hairstylist for your wedding!
There are a TON of factors that come into play when
booking an artist/stylist for your wedding :
Some brides book based on a style preference
(i.e. the kind of look they like).
Some brides book on a referral
(my personal fave, but more on that later).
For others, budgeting/pricing
is also a HUGE factor,
& then there are some brides who consider
not booking an artist at all!
Whatever it might be, I hope these tips help you decide!⇣
⇢ First things first, if you would like both your hair & makeup done,
▷▷ Make sure you book an Artist who has experience with both
or works on a team that includes BOTH Makeup & Hairstyling !
Interesting advice, right?
Contrary to popular belief,
Makeup & Hair are two VERY different things in the beauty industry
& there are a LOT of
Makeup Artists who don't offer hair as a service
(& vice versa for Hairstylists.)
So it's important that you make sure to address that in the beginning
so as not to have any confusion on services rendered on the day of!
⇢ After you've researched the artists' services,
▷▷ Make sure you know your budget BEFORE you proceed with booking !
I know it seems like it goes without saying but this is incredibly important!
If you are on a VERY set budget,
it's important that you make sure that
when you're looking into a specific artist,
that they are WITHIN. THAT. price point.
Periodt.
If an artist is VERY MUCH out of your price range, it would probably be better to keep researching,
instead of trying to ask them to come down in price.
As an Artist myself, I can assure you that if you are transparent about the budget from the beginning,
that the Artist will be honest & upfront with you regarding price from the get-go!
See…unfortunately,
there are usually add-on fees
on TOP of the services received…
& these fees really do add up.
Travel, parking, even room accommodations
in some cases!
&I’ll be honest,
in the case of WEDDING hair & makeup
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
It may seem like quite the expense
but if you love the Artist's work,
it will be MORE THAN worth it when you
see yourself on your wedding day,
feel amazing throughout the night,
& look back on the photos from that day!
⇢ Finally,
▷▷ Expect to put money down to reserve your date !
I have yet to meet a Wedding Makeup Artist or Hairstylist that didn’t require a retainer
…well a GOOD one, at least.
And there’s a reason for that.
Other than the Artist possibly being booked on your date
(which is a BIG reason we take deposits)
We need insurance for the work we’ve already been putting in.
Artists only get paid for services rendered, and in the case of a Wedding,
ALL of the background work beyond the actual services take up a HUGE amount of time and effort.
Answering your calls/emails promptly
Creating your timeline/schedule for the day
(& every adjustment thereafter)Booking additional artists
Prepping our kits with ample supplies
Following up with contract details, changes, additions, updates.
Communicating with additional points of contact (wedding planner, maid of honor, photographer, venue, MOTB, etc)
And all of the extra background administrative work that goes into finalizing the details for your booking.
Now multiply that by the amount of Brides they might be booked with!
Whew!
The great news? It will be deducted from the overall total on the Big Day!
And it will ensure your Artist will be able to meet whatever hair and makeup needs you might have!
